Homeownership Training
The primary goal of the Habitat for Humanity homeowner/homebuyer education is to provide families with the skills necessary to become successful homeowners. One of the most important responsibilities of the Family Support committee is to develop a thorough and accessible homebuyer readiness education program. Homebuyer education should be a core sweat-equity requirement of the affiliate’s agreement with the family.  All partner families are partnered with a mentor.

A Brush With Kindess

A Brush with Kindness paints, landscapes, and does minor repairs to the exterior of homes for low-income residents, and at no cost to them. In particular, it focuses on those homeowners in difficult circumstances, or have issues such as age, disability or illness, as well as single-parent households.

Who we are

We are a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.

Building Homes With Partner Families
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and     materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families.  Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.  Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans.   The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

What we build

Our houses are simple, decent, and affordable to low-income families around the world.  Whenever possible, we build sustainable, energy-efficient and healthy housing.

How are partner families selected?

Families in need of decent shelter apply to local Habitat affiliates. The affiliate’s family selection committee chooses homeowners based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay the loan.  Every affiliate follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection.  Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families who receive Habitat houses.
